Student Services

Academic services

Arcadia Center offers its students comprehensive academic support to help them adapt to their new learning environment.

Jan Sanders, Arcadia’s Resident Director, acts as academic dean and oversees the following:

  • Academic counseling
  • Faculty—student coordination
  • Credit transfer and transcript release
  • Communication with study abroad advisors
  • Access to the American School of Classical Studies and the British School at Athens

Student support

Arcadia Center has staff on site to help students with any personal or inter-personal concerns that may arise during the semester. We support students in their adjustment to everyday life in Athens as well as in their overall personal growth. In the event that a student requires professional counseling, Arcadia has built relationships with a number of qualified English-speaking counselors.

Cultural counseling

Students are provided ongoing support throughout the semester, both individually and collectively, to help them adjust to the culture of Greece. Cultural counseling begins during orientation week, but the end of orientation marks the beginning of most of students’ cultural experiences. Students will constantly face new challenges, both through the Greek Key seminar and their own exploration, and Arcadia is committed to assisting students in making the most of these experiences.

Orientation

Arcadia Center offers a week-long orientation to help students become acclimated to Athens and life in Greece. During this week students will be introduced to:

  • public transportation in Athens
  • the weekly open market
  • shopping in supermarkets
  • the neighborhood of Pangrati and central Athens
  • safety and security
  • school policies, etc.

In addition students will have an introductory week of Modern Greek language and the week will end with a school-wide field trip to a seaside destination outside of Athens to introduce students to the Greek countryside.

Health services

For health and safety information, please see CEA’s Health and Safety page.

Emergency plan

In the event of an emergency Arcadia Center has an emergency plan in place, which students will be informed about at the beginning of orientation.
